Silhouette of a dreadnaught parasite

What is "Hell?"

The hordes:

Every full moon (8 Minecraft days) is a blood moon.

5 minutes after dusk on every blood moon a horde will come for you.

The hordes attack in waves and last until dawn.

Each 8 days this horde becomes increasingly more powerful.

Zombies invade the first 48 days, parasites start invading on the 56th night.

Also

Each Minecraft day is no longer 20 minutes but rather 42 minutes long (22 minutes day and 20 minutes night), meaning your 100 days is really more than 200 days in total time.

This also means horde attacks last for 15 minutes.

Each zombie type has varying characteristics

Zombie:

Zombies are plentiful, and powerful. A single hit to the head will nearly kill you. They are particularly slow moving but are highly intelligent, some more than others, you may see a few using weapons and armor. They can break break blocks, build pillars and stairs, and have advanced sensing abilities to hunt down prey. For example, they can hear noises such as pistons and loud machines and will go towards these sounds to investigate. This will be an annoyance, but it can also be used to your advantage for traps. Zombies can even sense you through walls if they are close enough to you. Scarce amounts of them are equipped and capable of using TNT (They are so slow that this will almost always result in their own death.)

Husk:

Husks are noticeably smaller than normal zombies and are much faster. However, they lack the same the intelligence zombies have and are much weaker. They also wear arid clothing due to the excessive body heat generated from their intense physical activity.

Zombie Villager:

The bottom of the food chain. Zombie villagers are faster than zombies but are much slower than their husk counterpart. They're almost as weak as the husk and burn in the daylight. Almost pitiful.

Mutant Zombie:

The good ole' mutant you know and love. You already know about him, if you don't you'll get to know him soon, he comes around pretty often.

Zombie Soldiers, Farmers, & Miners:

A rare set of zombie variants that are capable of wielding and handling firearms. Like the zombie villager they burn in the day light with the exception of the soldier. Typically they are equipped with tools or the weak stone cannon. Sometimes the zombie soldier can use much more dangerous weapons, such as a tommy gun as seen above. They usually wear weak armor. Zombie miners, like zombies, are capable of mining blocks.

Parasites

Many types of varying dangerous parasites will plague your world if you're not able to contain them well enough.

Parasites are far more powerful than zombies and will waste no time infecting your world at record pace. They will be your primary Overworld threat halfway in your playthrough and maximum effort should be put towards mitigating their assimilation efforts; however, extermination is impossible. You may find that some of the more evolved parasites will adapt to damage types, counter this using fire. (The techguns flamethrower is an incredibly effective and fun weapon)

Lycanites Mobs

Luckily none of these monsters are in the Overworld. They persist only in the Nether and End, so do not think that you can escape Earth's hell by going to another hell. These mobs are very brutal and entering the Nether should only be done with lots of preparation to stand against them in combat.

Surviving Hell

There's no guide to hold your hand, but I will give some information. This modpack is entirely tech, but there is a lot of it at your disposal to aid you. Standard tech mods such as extreme reactors, mechanism, thermal expansion, AE2, etc are present for all of your power and production needs. Several combat related mods are installed that can be used to fight back the hordes such as techguns, flan's mod, open modular turrets and defenses, power armor, tinker's construct, and even ICBM.

Tough as nails, realistic torches, hardcore darkness, serene seasons, weather2, and first aid are installed and will make your experience much harder. This means that torches need to be lit and only last for 5 in-game days days, the dark is much darker and the night's brightness depends on the moon's phase, body temperature and thirst are of concern, crops only grow in certain seasons, tornadoes occasionally form, and health is separated into limbs and healing items such as medikits and bandages must be used since natural health generation is disabled.

Good strategies for surviving the hordes consist of using electric fences, cobwebs, lava (See rules below), oil, quicksand, pits, killboxes, obsidian, turrets, and whatever else you can come up with to protect your base. A good defensive base is located in a large flat area that grants no cover and allows all hostiles to be easily visible from large distances. If you have a structure that is above ground keep light from escaping it to not attract zombies, the blinds from MrCray's furniture mod blocks light when closed.

Transportation around the world will be challenging because options are limited. I recommend using the vehicles from the flan's mod to quickly move around and the hang glider from OpenBlocks in the early game.

Since the first Minecraft night is a full moon, your first night will also be a blood moon. Use this as an opportunity to go mining while the mob cap is maxed out on the surface.

Pro Gamer Tips

Use this as a guide if you are unfamiliar with many of the mods or are struggling

  • Playing hardcore mode when playing Escape From Hell for your first time is probably not going to go well.
    • A certain surprise happens on your first night. I will not spoil it but if you have experienced it already I recommend you take advantage of it if you do a second run. A one block tall trap is effective.
  • The plate presser from Advanced Rocketry is the cheapest way of obtaining ore doubling and it requires no power.
  • Steel tinker's armor with bone trims is a legendary set of early game armor, stronger than diamond and much easier to obtain. Make steel early game using the metallurgic infuser. Steel and osmium tinker's tools are good too.
  • Use the silky jewel on a tinker's pickaxe to collect redstone, coal, diamonds, etc so you can efficiently process them via sag mill.
  • Just use tinker's tools in general, there is no ore excavator
  • Make your first base a few blocks underground then build above ground later, hostile mobs can detect you a few blocks away no matter what's in between you and it and could dig to you or even blow up the blocks separating you from the mob.
  • Nether materials can be found in certain roguelike dungeons. Very useful given how brutal the nether is.
  • Make a weather deflector so that tornadoes do not ruin your farms and landscape.
  • Make a (armored) jetpack from simply jetpacks, it is your best way of early game flight.
  • You can carry spawners. (You can also put them in cardboard boxes for easier transport)
  • Mekanism's tanks are awesome because they have a bucket mode, Extra Utilities' iron drum also holds an incredible amount of liquid for being just 15ish iron.
  • Quark's candles and Techgun's lights are easy ways of permanent light sources.
  • Consecrated Soil can make your Tinker's weapons do HUGE damage against undead.
  • Draconic Additions potato armor, it's actually pretty good, would recommend. Made it in my survival world, bad decision, don't make the potato armor.
Escaping Hell

Build a rocket and leave, there's no salvaging this cursed Earth. Once (If) you go to space then you have basically won at this point, maybe you can become even stronger and come back just to demonstrate your new profound strength, but planet rejuvenation is impossible. You have 104 days to leave the planet. Alternatively you could just stay and survive the 104th night although I am not even sure if your world save could survive it.

DISABLE THE HORES MOD OR SKIP TIME PAST DAY 104 WHEN YOU LEAVE THE PLANET OR THE HORDES WILL CONTINUE SPAWNING

(Or not if you want them to)

Generating a World

Your world settings do not matter but I recommend Biomes o' Plenty. I have set it as the default option.

Miscellaneous Features
  • Mobs and the player can receive headshots for 2x damage
  • Sleeping speeds up time instead of skipping the night
  • Roguelike dungeons and many types of structures to explore
  • Overhauled visuals and audio
  • Antique Atlas (There is no Journey Map)
  • Several QOL mods
  • A pessimistic semi-cringy death narrator
  • Creepers that will explode themselves to breach areas blocked off by the player (This setting causes creepers to just blow up for no reason so it is disabled)
  • John Cena
  • Structures protected by armed npcs or zombies, such as U.S. soldiers defending desert oil wells
  • Several items are banned that would be too op for this scenario

Rules

(Feel free to not follow if you want to make your experience boring)

  • Live at least 100 blocks away from any large body of water, mobs for some reason cannot move in water unless the player is about 5 blocks away unless they are flying mobs.
  • Do not live in the sky either or else mobs will not spawn.
  • You can use lava but do not go over the top with it or try to use it in op ways. However, I challenge you to not use lava at all.
  • Be at your defense base during horde nights, only leave if you are overrun.

 Other Stuff

Please give me feedback on bugs, suggestions, thoughts on the difficulty, or anything else that can give me some insight on improving Escape From Hell. I am in college and do not have much time to do testing anymore compared to the first two weeks I spent making this.

The helmets from the flan's mod that zombies sometimes wear will occasionally be seen floating in front of their heads. Unfortunately, the flan's mod has no configuration for mobs wearing armor so I cannot change this. If this bothers you then you must sacrifice either disabling the zombies animation in the mo' bends menu, or uninstall flan's mod.

Huge inspiration for this modpack comes from Zombie Engineering by Suevv, RLCraft by Shivaxi (Many of his crafting recipes are used [Some are modified] since most people who used the first aid and rough tweaks mods are used to RLCraft's recipies [The default recipes are unreasonable]), and Last Days of Humanity by bstylia14 and SmileyCorp (Smiley makes this modpack possible because he made The Hordes

mod.)
