Why is Mod Menu leaving CurseForge?
The primary reason Mod Menu is leaving CurseForge is because its inability to handle Minecraft versions well. It does not separate breaking versions like 1.19.4, 1.19.3, and 1.19.2 in the sidebar, collapsing all of them under "Minecraft 1.19", causing people to download the wrong versions. Instead of adding a category for 1.19.3 snapshot mods, they added a 1.20-Snapshot version, so now there's a ton of 1.19.3 and 1.19.4 snapshot mods under the 1.20 heading for some reason. I have simply had enough and am going to live a more peaceful life without having to deal with the headaches, issues, and messages this website has caused.
In addition, CurseForge should adopt a policy to not approve unsubstantial forks or reuploads of projects. There are tons of valid reasons to fork a project, such as to port to another loader, port to a different Minecraft version, add new content to a project, or turning the project into something new. Blatantly reuploading a project with no or little changes, regardless of license, should not be allowed without explicit permission from the original author. You want to foster a community of creators, not one of plagiarism.
Update: In response, CurseForge has adopted a policy to prohibit the reuploading of another author's work without changes. Their current policies can be viewed here: Moderation Policies: CurseForge support. I think this change is great and that CurseForge has done a very good thing here👍
Existing versions of Mod Menu for 1.18.2 and lower will continue to be available on CurseForge, but all 1.19+ releases have been archived and new versions will no longer be uploaded to CurseForge. Use Modrinth instead.
Can I still use Mod Menu in CurseForge modpacks?
Yes, Mod Menu is licensed under the MIT License, and you are welcome to redistribute Mod Menu's files in your modpack regardless of platform.
Adds a screen for viewing a list of installed mods.
- The menu is searchable and sortable, libraries can be hidden.
- Client-side and API mods are marked with a special badge in the list.
- When clicking a mod in the list, its homepage, issues link and description are displayed.
- The mod details page also lets the user configure the mod, if available (can be disabled for modpacks via config).
